Volunteer as a trek guide
Love horses and people? Our volunteer guides help riders enjoy what is often their very first experience on horseback. Here's what's involved.
More than just a free ride
Volunteering as a guide is genuinely rewarding, but it takes a specific set of skills and abilities, including people skills. You'll be helping riders of all ages and confidence levels get the most out of their trek, safely.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Training days are provided for those selected, and you'll be part of a friendly team that loves what it does.

Time in the saddle, and time well spent
Volunteering with us is a chance to spend your weekends around horses, out in the Waikato hills, doing something that genuinely matters to people.
- Regular time riding a variety of horses, including those in training
- A friendly, like-minded team who love what they do
- Training days to build real horsemanship and people skills
- The buzz of helping someone conquer their nerves on their first ride
What a volunteer guide does
On a trekking day, our volunteer guides help get riders ready, fit helmets, run through the safety brief and lead groups out along the tracks. You'll be reading both the riders and the horses the whole way, keeping everyone safe and making sure they have a great time.
It's hands-on, outdoor work in all weather, and it takes a genuine, confident rider who is just as comfortable with people as they are with horses.
If you're an experienced rider in Hamilton or the wider Waikato looking to give back, meet good people and spend more time with horses, we'd love to hear from you. Training is provided for those we select, so you'll always be supported.
